At Advent Security, we’ve long known what the mayors of Melbourne’s southeast are now formally raising – local communities feel unsafe, and current frontline police resourcing simply isn’t keeping up.
This week, seven councils including Glen Eira, Bayside, Kingston, Monash, Port Phillip, Stonnington and Boroondara took the step of writing a joint letter to Victoria’s Police Minister. They’ve requested urgent increases in police visibility across crime hot spots and greater support for Neighbourhood Watch and local crime prevention programs.
The issues they’ve raised such as aggravated burglaries, youth crime, graffiti, public drug use, and anti-social behaviour in and around retail and hospitality precincts are the very things our team is increasingly being called to address. We’re also seeing growing concern from residents about safety in public housing areas and parks, particularly after dark.
While we fully support the call for more police resources, the reality is that even with more support, Victoria Police is stretched. And as the Minister’s office has already noted, he cannot legally direct police deployment decisions.
That’s why we believe private security has a crucial role to play – not instead of police, but alongside them.
Advent Security is actively working with community leaders to roll out roaming mobile patrols across suburbs like Brighton. Our goal is to provide a visible, highly trained presence that helps deter crime, respond quickly to incidents, and offer peace of mind for residents, business owners, and vulnerable community members.
